What GradeCalcOnline is
GradeCalcOnline provides free online calculators that answer the questions students ask most often: What is my current course grade? What do I need on the final exam? What happens to my average if I score a certain mark on the next test? What is my GPA?
The site covers the calculations behind everyday school life. Course grades in both weighted mode (categories like homework, quizzes, and exams each counting a set share) and points-based mode (total points earned out of total points possible). Final exam planning that works out the exact score needed to reach a target grade. What-if scenarios that preview how a future score changes an average. GPA calculations in weighted and unweighted scales, for a single semester or cumulative across terms. And a quick quiz grader for scoring a single test in seconds.
Everything is free, with no accounts and no signup. The tools work on phones, tablets, and desktops, because that is where students actually check their grades.
Our methodology: the math, shown openly
Grade calculators are only useful if you can trust the numbers. Every calculator on this site uses the same standard formulas taught in statistics classes and used by school gradebooks. Here is exactly what happens when you press calculate.
Weighted course grade. Each category score is multiplied by its weight as a decimal, and the results are added: final grade = (score1 x weight1) + (score2 x weight2) + ..., where the weights add to 1.0 (or 100%). This is the weighted mean, the same computation behind Canvas and Blackboard gradebooks.
Points-based course grade. Total points earned divided by total points possible, multiplied by 100. Every point counts equally, exactly as a points-based syllabus intends.
Final exam needed. The score required on the final to reach a target grade: needed = (target grade - current grade x (1 - final weight)) / final weight. If the answer exceeds 100%, the target is mathematically out of reach, and the calculator says so plainly.
GPA. Each letter grade converts to grade points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0, with plus and minus steps), multiplied by the course's credit hours to get quality points. GPA = total quality points / total credit hours. Weighted mode adds the standard bumps for advanced courses (+1.0 for AP or IB, +0.5 for honors).
Letter grades. Percentages map to letters using the most common US grading scale, shown on each calculator page. Because schools customize their scales, every result also shows the raw percentage, so you can apply your own school's cutoffs.
Privacy by design
All computation happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. When you type a grade into a calculator, that number is processed on your own device and never sent to a server, because there is no server involved in the calculation at all. There are no accounts to create, no profiles to build, and nothing to opt out of. The shareable result links work by encoding the inputs into the link itself, so even a shared link passes through no database.

GradeCalcOnline is an independent study tool. It is not affiliated with any school, college, or learning platform such as Canvas, Blackboard, or Moodle, and it is not an official academic record. Do you save or see the grades I enter?
